Hypothyroidism may raise the risk for cardiovascular disease, heart attack and stroke. Cardiovascular disease one of the leading causes
of disability and death, and although family history and genetics play significant roles, just because you have a strong family history of cardiovascular disease, doesn't mean that you will have the same fate. There are many things you can do, including adding certain superfoods into your diet, that can substantially reduce your risk. Potassium-rich foods such as oranges and bananas help reduce your risk of heart disease by lowering your blood pressure. High blood pressure is a powerful risk factor in the development of cardiovascular disease, and by eating foods rich in potassium, you may be able to keep your blood pressure readings down to normal limits, eliminating the need for medications.

Foods that are rich in magnesium including spinach, nuts, lentils,
pumpkin seeds, brown rice and avocados help to regulate your heart rate and lower your blood pressure. Furthermore, figs, bananas and dark chocolate are also great sources of magnesium. Eating a diet rich in magnesium may also provide your cardiovascular system with similar benefits as taking beta blocker medications. It is recommended that you supplement your diet with magnesium-rich foods, instead than taking supplements. Consuming too much magnesium may result in diarrhea and even an abnormal heart rhythm.

Superfoods That Fight Cancer
The foods you consume play important roles in your lifetime
cancer risk. Eating fruits, vegetables, lean proteins and fiber can help make a significant difference in your lifetime risk of cancer. In
addition, foods that are high in phytochemicals pack an even
healthier punch. Foods rich in phytochemicals include cauliflower, cabbage, broccoli, kale, spinach, collard greens, Brussels sprouts. Dark, leafy greens also contain substances known as carotenoids and lutein, and both are potent cancer-fighting nutrients. These healthy foods are also great sources of vitamins C, E and A, which are also powerful antioxidants, and help lower your risk of cancer by helping to prevent the development of disease-causing free
radicals in the body.
Tomatoes are important cancer-fighting superfoods. They are one of the best sources of lycopene, a potent phytochemical that also
helps reduce the risk of heart disease. Tomatoes are an excellent source of vitamins A, C and E, and might also help keep your
immune system strong. Add tomatoes to your salad, and also use them to liberally top your homemade pizza and favorite sandwiches.
Cabbage, a cruciferous vegetable also helps reduce the risk of colon cancer. Cabbage is high in fiber and has almost half of your daily requirement of vitamin C.
Carrots are also another potent cancer-fighter, because they are rich in fiber content and beta carotene. Carrots contain about three times your daily requirement of vitamin A.
Watermelon is also jam-packed with antioxidants, and contains
approximately 80% of your daily vitamin C requirements. Watermelon is also high in vitamin A and beta carotene, and like tomatoes, watermelon contains lycopene, a super nutrient.
Blueberries and strawberries are important superfoods to include into your diet. They are rich in vitamin C and fiber, and are quick finger foods which you can add to your favorite yogurt or whole grain cereal for added nutrition.
Kidney beans are also packed with fiber, and might help reduce
the risk of colon and rectal cancers. A 1/4 cup of kidney beans has
almost the same amount of protein as two ounces of red meat. Other excellent sources of cancer-reducing fiber includes whole wheat pasta. Combining whole wheat pasta with healthy olive oil,
broccoli and garlic supplies you with vitamin A, vitamin C, omega 3, fatty acids and fiber.
